growing pains
This is a story about a boy who loved to play.
He was always doing something he’d be out all day.
You named it he played it, Basketball, Baseball, Snowboard and Ski.
Skateboard, Wakeboard he felt so free.
All these activities consumed his life
When he had problems they took away the strife.
They were his outlet, his passion, his moment of Glory.
But there’s tribulation to every story.
One night he was skating with his Crew.
His skate hit a crack and off he flew.
It’s out, It’s out, he began to pout.
He screamed in pain and began to shout.
It felt as if he had been crushed by a boulder
He knew right then he dislocated his shoulder.
Weeks went by and his shoulder began to heal.
It was a new experience a painful ordeal.
He continued playing but soon would see.
That more dislocations was his destiny.
He went to the Doctor who told him it must be
to prevent more problems you need surgery.
So there we went under the knife.
Little did he know this would change his life.
3 weeks in a sling and a 3 month recovery.
without his activities he soon put on the calories.
3 months had past, but it didn’t seem fast.
He was able to go out and play at last.
Sliding and Grinding he had so much fun.
But he caught and edge and fell, the good times were done
His shoulder was out again, What would tell his Mother.
It wasn’t his bad shoulder this time the other.
Not again, he screamed, how can this be?
I just barely recovered from surgery!
Out came the shoulder again and again.
This is not the end of the story but only about to begin.
The following years were not very easy.
Injuries come to those who want to be steezy.
The doctors continued to cut in and tighten his joints down.
Little did people know behind this boy’s smile was a frown.
Thousands of dollars, 15 dislocations, and 4 surgeries later.
He had seen more Dark sides than Darth Vader
Through all the tribulation and all the hard licks
The boy grew confident that his shoulder had finally been fixed.
He continued to play both on snow and on water.
Even though he’d been through such a gnarly slaughter.
Free at last from all the slings
His heart rejoiced, he began to sing.
Jumping and spinning without a care.
Suddenly his sweet dream turned into a nightmare.
Crash, pop followed by groans of pain.
The boy could not believe that his shoulder was out again .
This time the surgery is more complicated.
Inside the shoulder are screws and its metal plated.
a 6 month recovery and 6 weeks in a sling.
He bears a bigger burden than Frodo and his Ring.
Another weekend he has to sit in his room out of sight.
While all his friends strap on the boards and go take flight.
his friends all ask him to come out and play.
But this just brings the boy more dismay.
Do you wanna go boating they often ask,
or where are you getting your a season pass?
like salt in the wound these questions make it worse
little to they know that his shoulders are a curse.
You guys go ahead, I gotta stay inside.
You’ would have thought this boy had crawled up and died.
Sitting alone in his room he cries.
All I wanna do is go out with the guys.
Really? 5 surgeries? Isn’t it enough?
I can’t handle this, it’s just too much.
I can see 1 or 2 surgeries or even 3 or 4.
But 5 is overbearing, I can’t take it anymore.
Why does this happen to me? He bitterly asks God.
Why couldn’t you have given me a working Bod? What lesson are you trying to teach me? What am I supposed to Learn?
I’ve been humbled so many times, is it more patience I must earn?
I just don’t get it, I’m sorry, I know I’m slow
Is there any other way to learn this? Please let me know.
Why is it that whatever I do with passion
always comes back to me crashin?
Then his sweet mother enters the room in tears.
Seeing her son in pain is her biggest fear.
You will heal soon she gently tells her son.
and then you will be able to go out and have more fun.
The boy looks at his mother with tears in his eyes.
All of his activities have been a tragic demise.
Mom, you’ve never had surgery, you don’ have a clue.
The boy’s Mom responded as if she knew.
Don’t be angry my Son, this trial we’ll get through.
Stepping stones and stumbling blocks are the same thing.
the difference is how you use them with whatever life may bring.
The Lord bring us low so we can rise above.
If we never felt sorrow, we’d never feel love.
What goes up, always comes down.
You won’t appreciate your freedom, until you’ve been bound.
Right now you’re angry and in a state of humility.
Endure with patience and the Lord will increase you’re ability.
When it’s dark you can see stars.
Trust in the Lord and you will go far.
Time has gone by and the boy is now older.
He now knows why he had problems with his shoulder.
I saw him the other day and he told me this.
He said, when times are hard and you’re really pissed.
Don’t feel bad about your self and wallow in self pity.
Life is tough, sometimes it’s plain shitty.
When life gets you down and it starts to hurt
you are about to go through a life growth spurt
Have patience and know these dark times will soon pass
Tribulations are like cars they will run out of gas.
Forget about your problems and you soon will see.
How we react to our problems echos in Eternity.
Bad things happen even when we’re living right
A diamond must be polished so it can be bright.
Lift your head high and see life with an eternal perspective
We go through these trials so we can be perfected.
